I grew up in a '96 Bronco, I learned to drive three on the tree in my Dad's '72 Bronco, my first vehicle at 15 years old was a '74 Bronco, I bought my Dad's '96 Bronco after college to have a more reliable drive, and the first brand new vehicle I ever purchased was a 2021 First Edition Bronco.

Jake's First Bronco

1974 Ford Bronco Dream Find | 2004

Driving down 3rd Avenue in Longmont in 2004 with my Dad and something caught both of our eyes sitting on the side of the road, a 1974 Ford Bronco with a For Sale sign on it. I was 15 years old and had been practicing driving on my Dad's 1972 Bronco all summer long, quickly developing my love for this vehicle. 

I couldn't believe it, but my Dad actually started slowing down to pull over. "Doesn't hurt to see what they're asking for it." he said. The price listed on the tag was $5,000, I had almost half of that to my name saved up, I wasn't hopeful. The owner was outside already, and came to greet us. Turns out he had already lined up a buyer in Wyoming and was getting ready to drive it up north to make the exchange. I was heart broken, not only was I short of the asking price, but I wasn't even going to get a chance to try and pull enough money together before it was going to be out of my grasp.

I let the adults chat, answering questions only when directed my way, how old I was, where I was going to school, what sports I played, where I was working, the usual. I couldn't be bothered really, I was about to watch my dream car drive north and out of my life forever. Just before the conversation seemed to be coming to its natural conclusion, my Dad said something that has since been cemented as a core memory.

My jaw must have hit the dirt, I stood frozen as I tried to process what I just heard come from my Dad's mouth. Even more so, this guy seemed to be actually considering it. His reply took what felt like 10 minutes when it was probably closer to 10 seconds, "I think I could do that."

Jake's Accident & Rebuild | 2005

Unfortunately, I was in an accident in High School when another driver ran a red light and ruined my morning. It took a little over a year for both me and my Bronco to recover and we're both looking better than ever.

The Ford Bronco coming back into production was announced on July 13, 2020, with a special, First Edition limited-production trim, fully loaded model, designed to commemorate the vehicle's return to the lineup. It was only available for the 2021 model year and included top of the line off road features and unique exterior and interior details, exclusive to the 7,000 vehicles produced.

John Bronco, a legendary pitchman who rose to fame in the 1960s after winning the Baja 500 in a prototype Ford SUV, became the face of Ford's marketing campaign, even launching his own line of products.
